Dolls by Walkerlady

With all the quilting I do, my scrap bin seems to grow faster than dust bunnies!  Needing a way to use up these scraps, I turned to doll making.  These little people have become a pleasant diversion and  welcomed addition to my quilting projects.  Since they don't take very long to stitch together, they provide not only a sense of instant gratification, and are a wonderful creative outlet.  When I start a doll, I rarely know what his or her face, gender or personality will be as these each seem to develop with a life of their own!

2005 Series of Dolls

(all are sold)

Star Doll

Star Doll was my first doll.  I made her for my niece's 12th birthday.  She is embellished with star buttons and stars on the points of her headdress and skirt.  Her skirt snaps in the back and is removable. Her arms and legs are jointed at the shoulders and hips.  She was made using Barbara Willis' pattern, Florabunda.

Pansy Doll

Pansy Doll was the second doll I made in the sitting doll pattern.  Since she is a garden sprite, I made her headdress and removable skirt to look more like the petals of a flower.  She is holding a pentagram made of twigs and vines attached to a beaded string of charms with the beads representing flower seeds and the charms including a spiral hand and a goddess fertility fetish.  She was sent as a gift to a dear friend of mine.  She was made using Barbara Willis' pattern, Florabunda.

Kabuki Doll

Kabuki Doll is my fourth articulated sitting doll.  His long white hair is embellished with bells tied to each strand.  He wears a golden robe which compliments his brown eyes.

Horse Doll

I made Horse Doll as a "thank you" gift for a girl that tended my horses over the summer.  Horse Doll has fuzzy chaps and a vest embellished with horse and horseshoe charms.  Her auburn hair is tied in an appropriate pony-tail under her felt cowboy hat embellished with a feather from my canary, Bandit.  Her necklace is a string of beads spelling out the name of the girl I'm giving her to, Amy...

Fairy Doll

Fairy Doll is the first of my miniature dolls.  She barely stands 6 inches tall. Her embellishments are long silky white hair, a purple lace skirt with a tied belt and iridescent lame' wings.  Her pattern was a free one from the internet.

Tiger Doll

Tiger Doll is the sixth in my sitting doll series. She has black and gold beaded hair and is wearing a fringe loin cloth and halter top embellished with a gold star...

From humble beginnings to craziness....here are even more dolls that have been produced over the last two years.  I made 12 little blue fairy dolls in 2004.

Two views of a beaded fairy.

Blue, Pink, and Green fairies

Round Robin Doll

Before and after shots of the round robin doll I did.  Her body is made from placemats my Mom used to own.
