Odd Projects

A friend was working on this project and became disenchanted with it. She had done a lovely job of appliquéing the fish onto fabric. I took it the rest of the way:

Here I am putting the circles on to show fish scales, and the extra batting on the underside to give the fish some depth.

The fish now all have the circles sewn on and I quilted the water effect, again using metallic threads.

The first round of rocks are actually the binding on the quilt. I then made a double tube of rocks to give more depth to the pond effect. You can see the first attempt at using tulle for the water. I did not like how it looked.

I finally found this blue tulle with sparkles in it for the water. The lily pads are yo-yos and the flowers are just inexpensive cloth flowers from Michaels. I took them off their plastic stems and attached them to the pads with a couple beads inside. Then I sewed the pads onto the tulle and attached a thick thread of green for the stems. I anchored that with a black bead that is glued to the water fabric.

I made this little quilt as a memorial to my Mom.

She was the first female postal carrier in the town we lived in, back in the 1960's.

My quilting guild does a holiday bag exchange each year.  This year I made one that has an ocean theme.
